Chevy Chase is several towns, not one
The name Chevy Chase covers a patchwork. There is Chevy Chase Village, the Town of Chevy Chase, Chevy Chase Section 3, Chevy Chase Section 5, Martin's Additions, Chevy Chase View, and North Chevy Chase, each one an incorporated municipality with its own streets and its own rules. Around them sit unincorporated neighborhoods such as Rollingwood and Chevy Chase Lake, which follow the county.
That changes the first step of every rental. In most of the county, a driveway needs no permit. In most of incorporated Chevy Chase, it does. So before you pick a delivery date, find out which municipality your house is in. Your property tax bill says so, and so does the town office.

Connecticut Avenue (MD 185), Wisconsin Avenue (MD 355), East-West Highway (MD 410), Brookville Road (MD 186), and Bradley Boulevard (MD 191) are state roads. Nobody wants a dumpster on those, and the permits are a separate state process.

What the houses here ask of a dumpster
Chevy Chase Village was planned as a streetcar suburb, and its original rules banned alleys. That means no back lane to hide a container in. It goes in the driveway or on the front of the lot, and that is exactly where most of the villages require it anyway.
The houses are large and old: Colonial Revival, Shingle style, Tudor, Craftsman, and Four Square homes from the late 1800s and early 1900s, on streets with a heavy tree canopy. Two things follow from that.
- Weight. Plaster walls, slate, old tile beds, and cast iron add up fast. For a gut renovation in one of these houses, pick the size for the tons, not just the space. The 20 yard includes 2 tons and the 30 includes 3.
- Branches. The truck tilts the container up to roll it off, so it needs clear air above the driveway. Tell us about low limbs, and send a photo if you can. Chevy Chase Village also has an urban forest code, and its permit asks you to certify you are following it.
Our 15, 20, and 25 yard containers share the same 16 by 8 foot footprint, so if a 15 fits your driveway, the 25 does too.
Do I need a permit for a dumpster in my Chevy Chase driveway?
In most incorporated parts of Chevy Chase, yes. Chevy Chase Village, the Town of Chevy Chase, Section 3, Section 5, Martin's Additions, Chevy Chase View, and North Chevy Chase all want their own permit for a dumpster on private property. In the unincorporated parts, such as Rollingwood, a driveway needs no permit.
Can the dumpster go on the street in Chevy Chase?
Not in Chevy Chase Village, Section 3, Section 5, Martin's Additions, or North Chevy Chase: their rules keep dumpsters off their streets. In the unincorporated neighborhoods, street placement on a county road is possible with a county dumpster permit and warning devices. We do not supply the cones or reflectors. How far ahead should I book?
Start the permit first. Chevy Chase Village says it usually acts on a dumpster permit in 5 to 10 working days, and it wants a survey and a site plan showing where the container goes. Once you have the permit, we can usually deliver the same day if you call before noon.
What about the old brick walk or the patio?
Brick, concrete, dirt, and asphalt do not go in a regular container. They go in our dedicated 15 yard heavy debris dumpster at a flat price. Call us to order it.
