This is our home turf
Our yard is in the 20906 part of Silver Spring, on the Glenmont, Layhill, and Aspen Hill side of town. That matters for a simple reason: when the truck starts its day a few miles from your driveway, deliveries are early, pickups are quick, and a last-minute change is not a crisis.
This is also where we started. We launched the company here in 2020 as a family business, with one truck and seven dumpsters. Three trucks run out of the same Silver Spring yard today.

The houses here, and what comes out of them
A big share of Silver Spring was built between the 1940s and the 1960s. Think brick colonials and Cape Cods closer in, ramblers and split levels as you head out toward Colesville and Layhill. These houses are solid, and their debris is heavy. Original kitchens and baths often have plaster walls and mud-set tile, which weigh far more than modern drywall and thinset. A bathroom that would fit easily in a 10 yard by volume can use most of its 1 ton allowance.
So for older Silver Spring homes, tell us what the walls and floors are made of. For a plaster gut we will often suggest a size up for the weight allowance, not the space.
The other job we see constantly is the basement. Sixty years of family storage, an old oil tank room, paneling from the seventies. A 15 yard handles most of them.

Driveway or street?
Most single-family homes here have a driveway that fits a 10, 15, or 20 yard without trouble. Put it there if you can. No county permit is needed on private property.
Closer to downtown, and on some of the narrower streets in Woodside and East Silver Spring, the street is the only option. Silver Spring is unincorporated, so street placement on a county road goes through the Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services. They require a dumpster permit and warning devices around the container, and they say to allow one to two weeks. We do not supply the cones or reflectors, so plan for them; our permit guide walks through the county process step by step. Georgia Avenue, Colesville Road, University Boulevard, and New Hampshire Avenue are state roads, so placement on those is a separate process with the state. In practice, nobody wants a dumpster on Georgia Avenue anyway. A side street or a rear parking pad is the answer.
Condo and apartment buildings downtown: talk to building management first. They usually have a loading area and a time window they want you to use.
Can I really get a dumpster the same day in Silver Spring?

Usually in your assigned parking space or a spot the HOA approves. The parking lot belongs to the association, so get their permission before you book. A 10 yard is 14 feet long and fits in most standard spaces.
